Kostas Makrygiannis was born in Thessaloniki where he lives and works until today. He studied Painting at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts of the Athens University, with professor Dimitris Zouroudis. In the work of Kostas Makrigiannis, the emphasis is on geometric shapes which, with colored ellipses and fillings, outline various contours in shades of gray that dominate the color field. The whites, blues and earth tones that are scattered around act as autonomous elements that brighten up the monochromatic gray. Other times they are concentrated in specific points of the table with a harmonious arrangement, creating geometric patterns which acquire a new essence.
Applying lines of acrylic markers brings out the color on selected forms. A different placement of the line creates distortion and weakening. This is how lines and forms interact with each other in a relationship of solidarity and mutual support.
